The first heat wave of summer is starting, but will it last?

The weather was still capricious on Monday, swinging between sun and rain gloomy start to summer. But on this Wednesday, the sky cleared, it gradually warmed up. After some atmospheric instability, this week will indeed see the first days of real heat in July starting Thursday.

Sunny, dry and warm

Météo-France forecaster Loïs Porchet explains that the weather will be “less windy and sunny, especially in the south”. We have to thank the passing of the anticyclone that ended the period of “Stormy Degradation”.

The last two days of the week are expected to have a high temperature of around 30°C. If this hot and dry weather quickly spreads across France, the south will take the biggest hit. On Friday, there will be a heat peak in Var department with a peak of 40°C.

“Cool Wind from the Atlantic”

This return of warmth should last through Saturday across the east of the country… but not beyond: It will be preceded by a new depression phase due to “cooler air moving in from the Atlantic.” Expected: A cloudy weekend will be marked by showers and thunderstorms, especially overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Therefore, the increase in temperature is temporary. After the weekend fluctuations, Loïs Porchet says that next week will be characterized by a more “cyclonic” atmosphere. In other words, “the temperature will be around seasonal norms, 25-26 degrees, and it will be cloudy.” It’s not enough to hold your sweaters, but it’s a nice taste of more summer weather to come.
